Openplate sessions are a fortnightly drop-in class designed for professional actors looking to further develop and refine their craft through a dynamic combination of stage and screen work.

Each session offers the opportunity to explore scenes you may not otherwise have the chance to work on, in a creative and supportive environment that mirrors both the rehearsal room and the experience of working on set. With stage direction from Sam and screen direction from Joe, actors are encouraged to challenge themselves, deepen their connection to text, and experiment with performance in an imaginative and collaborative way.

One week prior to each session, actors will be paired and provided with material to prepare. Alternatively, participants are welcome to bring their own chosen scenes or texts to work on.

  • Absolutely. Just let us know whether you’d prefer to focus on stage or screen work. We’ll pair you with a scene partner and send material tailored to your preference - unless there’s a specific piece you’d like to work on yourself.

  • This is a drop-in class, so you’re free to attend whenever suits you, with at least one week’s notice before the class. You’ll receive your material in advance, then have 30 minutes at the start of the session to rehearse with your scene partner. From there, we’ll work through the scene together with live direction and feedback. For on-screen work, classes include a live camera feed so everyone can watch performances back in real time.

  • We welcome observer for a one off trial. However, if you would like to observe more than one class, there will be a £15 fee per session.

  • If working on screen, you will get sent the footage after the class for review.

  • We welcome you to bring your own material if you have something specific you want to work with. Otherwise, we can choose something for you!
